Why we name our sarees after food - the story behind Scoop 01 and Candy's

the first question people ask when they find out our sarees are named after ice cream and candy is usually some version of "why?"

it's a fair question. the saree industry has a language of its own. sarees are named after the place they come from, the technique used to make them, the occasion they're meant for. Banarasi. Kanjeevaram. Bridal. Festive. the naming conventions are serious because the fabric and the craft are serious.

so why did we name ours after food?

the honest answer

when we were building Scoop 01 - favgreen's first collection - we kept running into the same problem. we wanted the collection to feel different from everything else in the market. not just in how it looked but in how it felt to discover it.

most saree brands name their pieces in ways that either require prior knowledge to understand or feel so formal they create distance. you need to know what a Tissue Banarasi is. you need to understand what Zardozi means. and if you grew up outside India, or if sarees just weren't a big part of your life growing up, that distance can feel like a closed door.

we wanted an open door.

ice cream is an open door. everyone has a relationship with it. Honeycomb, Pistachio Gelato, Dragonfruit, Creme Brulee, Caramel - you don't need to know anything about textiles to feel something when you read those names. you already have a memory attached to them. a color association. a feeling.

and that's exactly what we wanted. because the sarees themselves are about feeling something. not just wearing something.

why the colors work

here's the thing that made the naming feel right rather than just clever. the colors matched.

Honeycomb is gold. Tissue Banarasi in gold. the moment someone named it Honeycomb in the studio it was obvious and inevitable. Pistachio Gelato is that specific muted green with gold running through it - exactly the color of pistachio ice cream. Dragonfruit is dusty pink. Creme Brulee is champagne cream with a warmth to it that's identical to the dessert.

we didn't force the names onto the sarees. the sarees told us what they were called.

Candy's and why the second collection had to follow the same logic

when we started building the second collection we knew it needed its own world. Scoop 01 was ice cream - indulgent, rich, limited drops. Candy's needed to be different in character. lighter, more playful, more accessible. a collection built for everyday life as much as for occasions.

candy made sense for the same reason ice cream did. it's immediate. it's colorful. it's something everyone has a relationship with regardless of where they grew up or what language they speak.

Big Babol in hot pink. Cherry in vermillion red. Lemonade in bright yellow. Flying Saucer in royal blue. 100% Dark Chocolate in black. Ash Gobstopper in six shades of grey.

each name tells you the color before you've even seen the saree. and more than that, each name tells you something about the personality of the piece. Big Babol is bold and unapologetic. Cotton Candy is soft and effortless. Toffee is warm and understated. the name does work that a number or a code never could.

what it means for the customer

we've had people tell us they chose their saree because of the name before they even looked at the product image, not because they were buying blindly but because the name already told them something true about the piece and it resonated.

that's what good naming does. it creates a shortcut to feeling. it makes a product feel like it belongs to you before you've bought it.

and for a brand that's built around the idea that Indian craft should feel accessible and alive and relevant - not just preserved in glass - that shortcut matters.

what comes next

Scoop 01 and Candy's are the first two drops. there will be more. each one will have its own world, its own naming logic, its own character.

but the underlying idea won't change. favgreen pieces will always be named in a way that anyone can connect with. not because we're trying to be different for the sake of it. but because we genuinely believe that Indian craft belongs to everyone. and the way you name things is the first step in making them feel that way.
